our Work
Below you will find examples of student work, project cards and handouts, video clips of my class, and project ideas for future years. This section is labeled "Our Work" since none of this would be possible without my amazing students. Have fun exploring!
01
Ethics and the Environment
This is the project card for a three week mini-project I did with my class Spring 2024. This project consisted of learning about various issues with how our food gets to us and then identifying biotechnology solutions and looking at the ethics of them through those issues.
02
Biotechnology Solution Posters
These are examples of student work for the project mentioned above. These examples exhibit a range of creativity and understanding of their selected topics. Students were able to choose topics and biotech solutions that interested them, as well as having the choice of using a template for the poster or creating it themselves. Students used Adobe Illustrator to create the artwork featured on their posters.
03
Teaching Video Clip
This is a clip from the bacterial transformation lab I did with my students. The purpose of this lab was to deepen their learning in the process of how DNA codes for certain proteins that in turn express different physical traits. In this lab, we were specifically looking at antibiotic resistance for E. coli and how the bacteria can be transformed to glow red. In this clip, the class and I can be seen reviewing some of the information in their lab packets and relating it back to some of the previous work they had done to ensure understanding. This lab connected to the unit that we were doing on biotech solutions by observing how biotech can be used to change DNA and learn about how science research si conducted, while looping our learning back to an earlier unit on adaptation.

Future Project Ideas
For future projects I would love to expand on the min-project that I completed with my students during Spring 2024. With more time to dive into this topic there will be more opportunities to create meaningful moments for students to connect to and gain hands on experience. In the photos to the right, you can see the essential questions for the project, the deliverables, and the timeline that students had during the mini-project. In continuing this project, I would still have anchor texts like "Farmers Table" and "Silent Spring", but would like to add readings from "Braiding Sweetgrass" and other essential environmental books.
